Harris School of Business Promotes Community Involvement medical assistant programs

The Harris School of Business not only trains students for new careers, but also emphasizes the importance of contributing to the community. This December, students and staff from the Harris School participated in an array of giving activities. Whether it was a food drive or a giving tree, the students and staff pitched in to help out those who are less fortunate.

The students of the Hamilton/Trenton campus proved that pulling together resources can really make a difference. The campus partnered with the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen to “adopt” a local family with five young children. Deborah Kenney, director of education at the Hamilton campus, says, “We provided Christmas dinner, a ‘family fun’ box filled with items to make and bake, a week’s worth of groceries, and gifts for the kids.” Ms. Kenney continues, “We wanted to do something that would make an immediate positive impact on someone’s life right here in our own community.”

In Dover, Del., the campus worked with the Salvation Army to set up an “angel tree.” The tree was decorated with gift tags showing the name of a child and his or her wish for a gift. Staff and students purchased the gifts, which the Salvation Army then donated to the families. “Projects like this help make the holidays a special time for children in need,” says Erika Winans, campus director. Meanwhile, the campus in Danbury, Conn. collected pet supplies for the Danbury Animal Welfare Society. These activities are just examples how the giving spirit is alive at Harris.
